Kaş is the antidote to big resorts. This small harbour town of whitewashed houses and bougainvillea faces the Greek island of Meis across the water, and has a relaxed, slightly bohemian feel. Visitors come for diving, kayaking, boat trips and long dinners rather than a packed beach.
Flights to Dalaman take about 4 hours from London, and to Antalya about 4h15. Turkey is two hours ahead of the UK in summer and three in winter, plugs are the two round-pin type, and cars drive on the right. See our Turkey guide for more on the country.
Where to stay
- Kaş town – boutique hotels and guesthouses within walking distance of the harbour, restaurants and dive centres.
- Çukurbağ Peninsula – a long peninsula west of town with hotels and villas, many with swimming platforms and sea views.
- Küçükçakıl and Büyükçakıl – small pebble beach areas near town with hotels and bathing platforms.
- Hillside villas – private villas with pools above town, popular with UK families and groups.
- Nearby – Kalkan is about 30 minutes west for upmarket villas and rooftop dining.
Things to do
- Kekova boat or kayak trip – glide over the partly submerged remains of an ancient Lycian city, then visit the castle village of Kaleköy (Simena).
- Diving and snorkelling – clear water, wrecks and underwater caves, with dive centres for beginners and experienced divers.
- Kaputaş Beach – a striking cove of turquoise water at the foot of a gorge, about 20 minutes by road.
- Antiphellos theatre – a small Hellenistic theatre west of town with sunset views over the sea.
- Day trip to Meis (Kastellorizo) – the Greek island is a short ferry ride away; bring your passport.
- Myra and Demre – Lycian rock tombs, a Roman theatre and the church associated with St Nicholas.
- Patara and Saklıkent – an 18 km sandy beach and a narrow gorge, both easy day trips.
Swimming in Kaş is mostly off rocks and wooden platforms, so pack water shoes and consider a hotel with its own bathing deck.
Best time to visit
May, June, September and October are ideal, with warm sea and good visibility for diving. July and August are hot and busier but less crowded than the big resorts. Kaş has a year-round population, and some hotels and restaurants stay open in winter.
Getting there
Dalaman (DLM) is the usual airport, with direct flights from most UK airports in summer; the drive takes about 2h15–2h30. Antalya (AYT) is about 3h30 by road along a spectacular coastal route and can have more flight choice, especially out of season.
British passport holders don't currently need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days in any 180 days, and passports should be valid for at least 150 days from arrival. Rules change, so check GOV.UK foreign travel advice before booking.
Getting around
The town is compact and walkable. Dolmuş minibuses and buses connect Kaş with Kalkan, Kaputaş, Patara and Demre. A hire car is useful for beaches and ruins, but parking in town can be tight in summer.

Does Kaş have a beach?
There are a few small pebble beaches in town, but most swimming is from platforms. Kaputaş and Patara are the nearest big beaches.
Is Kaş good for families?
Yes for older children who enjoy snorkelling, kayaking and boat trips. Younger children may be happier at a sandy resort such as Side.
Should I fly to Dalaman or Antalya for Kaş?
Dalaman is closer, about 2h30 by road. Antalya takes about 3h30 but may have more flights or better fares.
Can I visit Greece from Kaş?
Yes. Ferries run to Meis (Kastellorizo), a short crossing. Check passport and entry requirements for Greece before you go.
